Plumber’s Act of Kindness Toward 91-Year-Old Cancer Patient Earns Him Hero Status

In a world often consumed by self-interest, a plumber from the UK has emerged as a beacon of compassion and selflessness, capturing the hearts of people around the globe with his remarkable acts of kindness.

James Anderson, a 52-year-old father-of-five, has been dubbed a hero after it was revealed that he provides plumbing services to vulnerable customers free of charge through his not-for-profit company, Depher.

Anderson’s journey to becoming a modern-day hero began when he closed his private business and established Depher, with the sole purpose of assisting those in need. Since 2017, he has helped thousands of people, offering free or low-cost plumbing services to those who are elderly, disabled, or facing financial hardship.

However, it was one particular act of compassion that garnered widespread attention and admiration. A bill was shared online for services rendered at the home of a 91-year-old woman battling acute leukemia. To the astonishment of many, Anderson had charged her nothing for his services.

In a heartfelt message accompanying the bill, Anderson pledged ongoing support to the elderly woman, stating, “No charge for this lady under any circumstances. We will be available 24 hours to help her and keep her as comfortable as possible.”

When asked about his motivation for founding Depher, Anderson revealed that witnessing the mistreatment of an elderly man by another engineer inspired him to take action.

“A lot of people close to me ask: why are you getting yourself into debt? Why are you doing this?” he shared. “To me, debt is debt… I would rather owe some money to somebody and another person be alive and happy and safe.”

Despite accumulating debts of around £8,000 ($9,940) in the process, Anderson remains steadfast in his belief that his actions are making a difference in the lives of those he serves.

“It’s an ethos that’s in my heart and it will always stay there,” he affirmed.

Looking ahead, Anderson’s goal is to expand the reach of his work beyond his own capabilities by enlisting the support of fellow engineers and securing funding for Depher.

“I don’t want any person who is elderly and disabled in this country, in this day and age, to die or suffer because of a cold home or a lack of funding to repair the boiler,” he declared. “It shouldn’t be happening – that number should be down to zero. Simple as that.”

Anderson’s unwavering dedication to helping others has resonated with people worldwide, prompting an outpouring of support and admiration for his selfless acts. His story serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that one individual can have in creating positive change within their community.

As the world celebrates James Anderson and his remarkable deeds, let us all be inspired to emulate his spirit of generosity and compassion in our own lives.
