Whoopi Goldberg Responds to Joy Behar’s Comments on The View

During a recent episode of The View, Joy Behar, one of the show’s long-time hosts, made a surprising comment about Whoopi Goldberg’s firing from the show back in 2013. Behar, who had also been fired from The View in 2013 but was later brought back, told Goldberg that she was “happy” when she was fired from the show.

The discussion arose from an interview Behar gave to Time Magazine last year, where she expressed her happiness about being fired from The View. Behar explained, “I was glad to be fired. I was basically sick of the show at that point for some reason. I don’t even remember why.”

When Goldberg jokingly questioned Behar about her comment, Behar clarified, “I always have friends where I work, and if I don’t have friends at the job, I will not keep the job. So, when I was fired last time from this show, people said to me, ‘Were you okay with that?’ and my answer is, I was happy because all my friends had left already. So, there was no reason to stay anymore.”

Goldberg, who was a co-host of The View when Behar was fired, playfully teased Behar about her words, pretending to cry and saying, “Really? All your friends left?” However, Goldberg clarified that she was not actually offended, stating that they had “been friends a long time” by the time Behar was fired.

Behar has confirmed that it was not her decision to leave The View in 2013. “Somebody wanted me gone,” she told People Magazine in 2017. “It was not 100 percent my choice.”

Despite the comment, Behar’s co-hosts on The View praised her ability to brush off insults and move on. Sunny Hostin, another host on the show, commented, “She doesn’t hold a grudge. I think because she doesn’t remember what happened the day before. That’s how she’s been able to deal with this show. She just leaves it at the table and then moves on for another day.”

Behar’s candidness and ability to handle difficult situations with humor and grace have endeared her to fans and colleagues alike, making her a beloved figure on The View.
